Ponyboy would much rather have peoples hate then their pity because he didn't want people to feel bad for him because his was not as wealthy as everyone else and he didn't was to be seen as a victim to the environment.


2. What do you think is going on with Ponyboy when he says, "Johnny didn't have anything to do with Bob's getting killed" (p.166)?
I think that Ponyboy was going into denial because he didn't want his dead friend to take the blame and he didn't want to face the reality that Johnny really was dead and there was nothing he could do about it.
