The circumstances that Ponyboys teacher is referring to is that he has missed a lot of school and if he comes up with a good semester theme he will pass Ponyboy with a C grade. The circumstances Ponyboy thinks that his teacher is referring to is that he was goofing up because he was in a lot of trouble.
2. Why doesn't Ponyboy feel scared when the socs approach him and he threatens them with a broken bottle (p.170-171)? How is this a dramatic change from the Ponyboy we have seen up until this point?
Ponyboy does not feel scared when the socs approach because he is use to facing his fears and he knows that the socs are 'just guys' like the greasers and they don't like to fight either. This is a big change because at the beginning of this story Ponyboy is scared stiff every time he came close to a socs and now he wasn't scared at all.
3. What does Darry mean when he says, "you don't just stop living because you lose someone" (p.173)?
When Darry says that "you don't just stop living because you lose someone" he means that it's not the end of the world and everyone dies eventually. It was their time to go and sooner or later you need to move on with your life.

We know that Sandy didn't love Soda the way he lover her because she moved away to Florida after he asked her to marry him. Soda wrote her a letter but Sandy sent it right back without opening the envelope.

Darry and Ponyboy play a tug of war with Soda because they are always trying to get him to pick one side of the fight. This hurts Soda to ever hear them fight but to have to pick a side is just unbearable.

When Ponyboy says that Soda reminds him of a clot he means that he was always acting like a little kid and never liked to take anything seriously.
2. What condition is Johnny in after the fire?
After the fire Johnny was in critical condition. He had a a broken back and severe burns after the timber had fallen on him.
3. Why would being crippled be worse for Johnny than someone else?
Being crippled for Johnny was worse because he was already the person in the group who always got the sympathy from everyone. Being crippled would make him feel even worse and he would never be able to fight with the gang again.
4. "Maybe people are younger when they are asleep" (p.104). what do you think about this comment?
I think that when Ponyboy says this he sees that when people are asleep they seem like they are at peace and are not worrying about anything.

A juvenile delinquent is a young criminal. My definition of a juvenile delinquents a young person who has gotten into trouble with the law.

He thought that they were hero's before they saved the kids because they would always help one another out in the gang when they needed it. They were hero's amongst each other.

According to Randy bobs "real" problem was that he had no discipline. He would try to get in trouble with his parents but they blamed themselves for him coming home drunk or beaten up. They thought that they had been a bad influence but all Bob wanted was some discipline and to have done something wrong for once.

The Outsiders Chapter 5

Ponyboy has a problem with Johnny's idea of disguising themselves because they will both have to cut their hair. Ponyboy didn't like this idea because he would have to cut his hair that took him a long time to grow and them bleach it blond so they could not fit the descriptions.

I think that the Poem is saying that whatever is good and pure on the earth can never stay. Like Ponyboy and Johnny. Everyone thought that they were the nicest greasers or the group and that they would get somewhere in life, but Johnny died because he save children's lives. He was part of mother natures gold. That's why the Poem says that nothing gold can stay.
6. On page 78, Johnny compares Pony and his brothers to their parents. Which one of your parents are you most like? What similarities do you share?
I am most like my father. I have his height and some of his facial features. But i do have my mom's eyes.
7. What does Pony mean when he says he drinks Pepsi's like a fiend?
When Ponyboy says that he drinks Pepsi like a fiend he means that he is addicted to it and can't stop drinking it. He loves it that much.

But the one thing that the greasers do is stick together like a family.

Ponyboys relationship with Darry his older brother is weak. Darry works a lot and tries to take care of his brothers. He does not like it when his brothers cry because it shows that their weak and that is why Ponyboy and Darry are not close. Sodapop and Ponyboy are closer because Soda lets Ponyboy hang out with Steve and him and they get along better.
