The Outsiders Chapter 8

1. How does what the doctor first says, on page 119, foreshadow Johnny's condition?
When the doctor told them that he was in critical condition, they knew that he was in bad shape. But when the doctor came out and said that they could go see him now because it couldn't hurt they knew he was dying.

2. "We needed Johnny as much as he needed the gang. And for the same reason" (p.121). What do you think Pony means, and what is the reason?
Ponyboy means that Johnny needed the gang because they were like the family they never had and Johnny was like the gangs pet or even their little brother. the greasers are like a family and they can't get along without one another.

3. What does Two-Bit mean on p. 123 when he says, "we could get along without anyone but Johnny"?
When Two-Bit says that they could get along with anybody but Johnny they meant that Johnny was the person in the gang who would listen without complaining and he stuck up for the gang no matter what. He was the gangs pet and everyone cared for him.

4. If Darry didn't have Soda and Pony, why would he be a soc?
Darry could be a soc because he had good grades, he was smart, he was good at sports, and he could easily fit in with that group.

5. What does Cherry mean when she says Bob "wasn't just anyone" on p.129?
When Cherry said that Bob "wasn't just anyone she meant that he had something that mad people follow him and try to be friends with him and that he was marked different and better which made him stand out from the crowd.
