The Outsiders Chapter 9

1. On the bottom of p.133, when Pony asks what kind of a world it is, what comment is he making about how society judges people?
The comment that Ponyboy is making about how society judges people is how people will judge others by the way they dress, act or who they hang out with. If people don't act the exact same way as some others they immediately don't fit in.

2. Why do the boys fight? Why is Pony different?
Darry fights to show off his muscle, Soda fights for fun and competition, Steve likes fights just so he can beat the other person and Two-Bit likes fights because everybody else fights and so he just goes with the flow. Ponyboy is different because he really doesn't like to fight like his brothers he only knows how to fight for self- defence.

3. What is the difference between Tim Sheppard's gang and Ponyboy's? Explain how Pony feels this difference might give his group the upper hand?
The difference between Tim Sheppard's gang and Ponyboys is that Ponyboys gang just stick together in a fight and don't have an actually leader of the group. Tim Shepard's gang is different because Tim Shepard is the leader of the gang and they train and practice for rumbles. This is the reason why Ponyboy thinks they always win the rumbles against Tim Shepard's gang.

4. What do you think Johnny's last words to Pony mean?
I think that Johnny's last words to Ponyboy mean that he should stay who he is and not become a criminal or become like Dally. Johnny tells Ponyboy to "Stay Gold" and i think that it means that he should do what he wants and not listen to what other people think.
